Bespoke Development example: Royal Navy The Ships Fault Report System (SFRS) was designed for and in conjunction with the Royal Navy and enables the Navy to quickly disseminate information about technical engineering problems to all sites where such equipment is located. The Ships Fault Report System can incorporate any image in the user's PC, including from their Photophone folders. Images can be acquired from a camcorder, digital camera or scanner or can be screenshots captured by Photophone from other Windows applications such as Microsoft Word or Excel. SFRS has significantly improved the reporting process by reducing paper circulation and data duplication. The system also reduces data collation and reporting time, however, perhaps the most notable gain in productivity is derived from the enhanced communication offered by the combination of both SFRS and Photophone. In the past officers from the land based Warship Support Agency were flown out to ships to assess faults in situ. Using SFRS and Photophone the diagnosis can now be made remotely with the aid of digital still and video cameras. In addition the system also incorporates a 128 Bit encryption modules which helps secure the transmission of potentially sensitive data. |
