Portability |
| XBook has been designed with portability, ease-of-use and flexibility in mind. Complete record and data sets for entire operations can be transferred onto or from either a laptop computer or onto a CD. This function makes it possible for the exhibit officer to: • Deliver presentation work at court • Take witness statements • Conduct Case conferences with both the prosecution and the defence examiners Again, the ability to carry and transfer exhibit data securely, protects the continuity and integrity of the original exhibits within the evidence chain |
|
Image and File Management |
|
A clear image of the exhibit can be captured, stored and transmitted within minutes of it being found. This can save valuable time, especially when a suspect is being held for questioning and the time allowed is limited. This unique and powerful XBook facility also helps the Exhibits team to ensure that the continuity and integrity of the evidence chain is maintained and protected |
| Multiple Digital Photos/Video clips |
| Each XBook record can have multiple digital images/video clips attached to it. This is especially useful when many different aspects of the exhibit need to be photographed (e.g. close-ups of markings, wider angle of location exhibit found etc…). By using digital images attached to exhibit records, there is less need for the exhibit to be taken out of store and transported for examination. If sufficient photos are taken of the item, it is unlikely that the exhibit will need to be handled after initial forensic examinations. |
| Scanned documents |
| Further image attachments can include scanned pages of documentation found at the scene of the crime (e.g. handwritten notebooks, pages torn from books, address books). These scanned files can be attached to the exhibit record so that, as well as reading the text description of the exhibit, a full screen image of the item can also be viewed. |
| File Attachments |
| As well as allowing images and video clips to be attached to records, any other file can also be attached to XBook exhibit records (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc). Users have instant access to documents such as Forensic Reports, Analytical Statements, Police Officer Statements, and Action Results simply by clicking on the file name which is displayed as part of the record. As a result, this facility allows Senior Investigation Officers (SIOs), review teams, exhibit officers etc… to have access to the history or current status of the exhibit with a few keystrokes. |

|
Auto-report Generation |
|
• MIR Coversheets |
| Auto-record Completion |
|
This drastically reduces the time taken to create a new exhibit record. |
|
Links to MS Office |
| All XBook exhibit data can be exported into standard MS Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Notepad and as an attachment within Outlook for email transmission). |
|
Easy-to-use |
| XBook allows officers to complete complex and lengthy statements in a fraction of the time it takes to do it manually or using other computer systems. This allows the data to be used in pre-defined reports, such as an officer's statement regarding the scene of the crime. |
| Powerful and Extensive Data Retrieval |
| From an unlimited number of records and documents. The system provides the power to search individual operations or across the whole system of active or inactive operations. |
| Exhibit Tagging |
| All exhibit records can be tagged, either singly or in bulk by the user. This allows multiple updates of records within seconds and the click of a key. |
| Case Management Statistics |
| XBook has a facility whereby all data is recoverable in a statistical format, showing, for example, the number of exhibits produced by any one officer or the number of exhibits in each operation. |
| Court Presentation |
| XBook has the facility to produce Court Exhibit Lists, which can be distributed to the Judge, Prosecution, Defence and Jury. This reduces the amount of time that is spent by Case Officers reproducing these documents manually. |
